K3b not working in mdk10.1

Hi Anyone else experiencing this not writting and near enough crashing the system.

it gets as far as starting tao writting and hangs. i know about the memory leak on the 2.8 kernel but reading the k3b.rpm(0.11.16) information this was addressed in fix 4.

just for you info it doesn't work in suse9.2 either. which i tried after first installing mdk. i'm using the 10.1 official powerpack dvd if that helps.

Any ideas?

TIA

I'm using it just fine on four systems running the PowerPack 10.1 DVD.

I've burned numerous DVD's and CD's already with it using the stock kernel.

I'm running Mandrake 10.1 on two Intel chipset based systems and on two HP laptops.

All have DVD-+R/W, CD-+R/W combination single drives.

I also have no trouble performing other tasks while the disks are burning.

I haven't seen any issues with the included kernels.

It's a bit suspicious that you could not get it to run under SUSE 9.2 as well.

At least two of the above systems also used to run Mandrake 9.x at one time and at least since 9.2 K3B has also worked very well for me on those machines.

Maybe something outside of K3B and Linux is to blame?

thanks opjose, it's good to know your's is running fine. regarding it not running on suse i too found it strange, so booted into xp and it works a treat.

one thing when trying to run k3b is if i leave a terminal open logged in as root, the system turns off irq 15 any ideas what this means.

in the meantime i'm re-installing mdk10.1 with a different disc. just to eliminate that as a potential problem. it checksummed ok, but you never know.

thanks again.

What's bothersome is that you are getting the machine to hang.

Do you mean that the entire system freezes up?

If not swapping the burners may make the difference.

If the system hangs then there may be a different problem.

Hi opjose, swapped out the burner for a nice - 12 speed unit. i obtained for free. and it now works. strange the old one still worked in windoze though. perhaps linux is less tolerent of impending hardware failure.

I couldn't justify spending money on this system as it's an old bp6 which started my love affair with smp sytems hence me hanging onto it, i have two newer systems and am saving hard to get a dual opteron rig.

To answer your? yes the system became totally unstable (grind to a halt) for about five minutes after which point the system shut down irq15 and it would run slowly thereafter.

Thanks again for your time opjose.

Actually that is not a freeze and a relatively good sign that the new burner would work as you reported.

A hard kernel freeze is a totally different matter.
