iso images size
 

Hi guys,

I tried do download iso images (3 CD) of mandrake 10.2. Each time, the size of each CD is displayed to be around 700MB, but I end up with 100MB files when the download is finished (with no error message). I tried it on many sites with the same result. The files are iso images and recognized as such by the burner application.
Am I missing completely something on iso images ?
My configuration : Mandrake 10.0/KDE??/FireFox1.04

Are you using K3B? if you are, when you choose an iso for burning, an md5 check would be done, if that goes of successfully, then there is nothing wrong with the isos.

Also have you tried booting up with the isos, if yes, what happens?

md5 check is fine. But still, how come a 700MB file is shrinked to 100 ?

Then the ISOs are fine, it could be a problem with the medium(CD-R(W)) or the drive or a combination of both. You can try burning at lower speeds. Have you tried burning other data using similar media?

You can also monitor the burning process in K3B, and see how many MBs are burned.
Also as I had asked earlier, have you tried booting the CD?

Grab the DVD iso then.

The problem is that even if you haven't downloaded the md5 sum files K3B will still say the check has been successful. To properly check the md5 sums of the ISOs download the .md5 files you find in the same download directory as the isos and then either use the md5sum command to check them or try K3B.

I think your missing the OP's problem, which states that the files to be D/L are about 700MB but the finished D/Led file is only 100MB. This would not be a burning problem but a D/L problem. I would suggest choosing a different site to D/L your .iso's

OK so the question is still... You attempt to D/L a 700+ MB file... If the Downloaded file is 100MB there is obviously a problem, that needs to be addressed way before the burn process takes place...

The OP needs to varify that the size of the downloaded file corospondes with the size specified on the site... Obviously a 100MB file is not valid so buring it is useless...

The problem is in the download and since you do not say what the app is you are using it doesn't help.

My guess is your downloading to a directory that is not large enough for the download and your app hasn't let you know.

Try downloading using another browser to a different directory which you have checked for sufficient size.

Better still use gFTP -on the discs but you need to load it- which you need for files over 2 Gbyte as most of the browsers limit at this point- never heard of 100Mb though.

Naturally, check the file size before attempting to use K3B, which is brilliant and would have told you about any errors except you should have seen the MD5 sum was not correct.
