Is Mandriva still active and where can I download it???

After a few days of study, I have really settled on Mandriva being the Linux distro for me because it's install processes is said to be one of the slickest and also the most pain free. I'm a total Linux newbie so it's really what I need.

However, I have some concerns about the distro. Is it even being developed any longer? I wouldn't want to use a dead distro. I ask because it seems impossible to download! Every link for a torrent on the official site is dead. What, nobody is downloading this??? Searched all around the internet and can't find it anywhere. I searched ISO hunt to look for the torrent, but again, nobody is hosting this! So what gives???

Are you sure you weren't trying to download a pay version(including commercial crap)?
There's nothing wrong with any link of it's free version:
http://www.mandriva.com/en/download/free
The torrents run at full speed and their are many http/ftp mirrors as well...

Hi, yeah that's the link that I am using. I wanted to download the "one" disk version. Anyway, I just tried the link and I got "Error can't connect."

Maybe something is wrong my end? I'll have a dig around. Can you confirm that first link works? It's the 3 cd version that I just tried.

Thanks for the help :-)

They all work...
Check the settings of your bittorrent client or try an ftp mirror.

Thanks.

I installed a new firewall recently. I suppose it's affecting download of torrents. I'll have a look at it's configuration.

I'm downloading from the FTP link right now. Can't wait to try out Linux :-)

I got a perfectly useable version from mininova. Came down at 400-500kb/s too ;)

for a better linux start have a read of
mandriva linux documentation (on thir website)
or on your distro (although in 2007 it is not installed by default)
and/or read linux newbie admin guide
and rute linux

Thanks :-)

Just reading my way through "Linux for dummies." It seems a good book. I'm getting a much better grasp of things. Thanks for the point toward the Mandriva docs. I'll check them out!

I was just checking out installing the drivers for my modem... Oh. My. God. Is all that I can say! Still, I'll press on! I think I have plenty more reading before I feel ready to try an install.

Reading in advance is excellent. Then dive into an install this makes the learning curve
easier even if you brake things
