internal compiler error on everything i do

Ok, I am a really enthusiastic linux newbie. I've used Microshaft Windblows all my life and I got sick and tired of them. So I decided to install Mandrake Linux 9.2 on this old e-machines computer i have lying around (intel celeron 600mHz--bout all i know) I've been using it for about a month and I never really tried compiling anything because i didn't know i had to :P. But i heard that KDE 3.2 came out and i really wanted it. So i research and find out that i need qt library 3.2 (or something) so i download it and followed the directions as best i could (kinda confusing for a uber newbie like me) but no matter what i do, i get the same error. Internal Compiler Error: Segmentation Fault... if u just run the make or make install command again it will restart where it left off, and it will do whatever it does to files (or at least it doesnt give me the error again for a while)....but then it gives me the error later on...i tried using konstruct to install KDE 3.2 (which comes with the Qt libraries, but i get the same stuff... So i tried an experiment and downloaded some random piece of software off of tucows linux site and tried to compile it. same error. seems anything i try to compile (is this even the right word?) gives me the same error. Any help would greatly be appreceated... but remember, im a newb :P thanks so much! you are so wise! i bow down to you all... =) peace

That means your compile didn't get installed right (segfaults are equivalent to crahes in windows)
I suggest reinstalling those rpms and try to install things with rpm in Mandrake not from source (I recall mandrake is an rpm based distro.. but don't kill me if I'm wrong :P)

i dont understand

Heh, sorry... i dont understand. reinstall what rpms? Am i correct in assuming that RPMs are like EXEs in windows? I found a program in mandrake called rpmdrake.. it lists packages available on the install CDs... this is oh so very confusing
