Installing Mandriva on a IBM Fiber Chanel Drive

Hello all

I am availing the possibility to start implementing some linux servers for webserver application.
I have a IBM Storage and an IBM HS20 blade server with Qlogic Fiber chanell adapters.
I have downloaded the drivers for kernal 2.6,from IBM, but the intrutions provide by IBM for installing and booting from FC storage only covers RedHat and SuSE distributions.
Have any one experience or knowledge of how to do that with Mandriva? (i have Mandriva 2005 Limited Edition)

tanks for your help

I just checked some mirrors, and I don't even see any updates for LE2005, so you probably have a kernel that is much older than the drivers you are trying to install. Why don't you upgrade to Mandriva 2007?

Have you tried the RedHat and/or SUSE drivers? Or is the issue that the instructions don't work because configuration files are in different places? If that's the case, post the instructions or give a link so people can sort out the differences.

OK, this is the link you PMed to me. It lists three links, one of which is a README for the Qlogic Fibre Channel Linux Driver for 2.6 Linux Kernels. I assume these are the instructions you are referring to.

I see that it says they only support some specific kernels, but big vendors always do that so they have an excuse. If it works with those versions, there's a good chance it will work with others.

How far did you get?

Steps 1, 2, and 3 are nothing. In step 4, were you able to make a BIOS update diskette from the website and boot it?

In step 5, were you able to download the Fibre Channel Expansion Card driver source code for Linux to a floppy? And the IBM FAStT_MSJ for Linux to your harddisk?

The rpm commands in step 6 can be done literally, although with Mandriva it's easier to use urpmi to install things, e.g. "urpmi kernel-source-2.6.8.1mdk". And there is no kernel-headers RPM, so ignore that. Try these commands (from the instructions) to see what you do and don't have installed. These don't change anything--they just query your PC.
Code:

# rpm -qa | grep kernel
# rpm -qa | grep ncurses

BTW, it's easier to answer specific questions than general ones, and more people are likely to give an answer.
