Hello Everyone,
I had installed Mandriva on a friends notebook last week and I really liked how "easy" it was. I really liked how the install went and was so happy I decided to finally purchase a notebook for myself to install Mandriva on it.

Well, here is the sad part. My Mandriva install on my "brand new" notebook didn't go very well. I successfully installed Mandriva but I did receive a configuration prompt for my nVidia video card. The message was something like "Your Nvidia requires proprietary drivers.." and it just lets me select a "series 6" video card driver. When I reboot to GNOME I get a blank screen after the blue Mandriva boot screen. How can I fix this? Do I need to download the 64 bit version of Mandriva?

My Computer Configuration:

Compaq Presario V6133CL
AMD Turion 64 x2 Mobile150
120GB hard drive
2GB RAM
nVidia GeForce Go 6150

add kernel parameter video=vesa at boot that should fix you for now. Have you installed grub?

presumably the distro does not have the right driver, or no proprietary driver (anyway you will need to download and install the nvdia driver)

then newbie admin guide

When grub comes up before booting, press e to edit then add
video=vesa
to the bootup line (the one that says vga=791

If I were on the same situation, I would reinstall mandriva AND select Vesa video driver at the Post Install Configuration.

I've had several instances of blank or "black" screens with Mandriva 2007 during new installs. I've always gone back to a new install and selected a low resolution VESA driver during the install. This let me have a visible GUI desktop and I began experimenting with the different settings from the MCC.
