installing alsa on mandrake 9.2
Hi everyone,
I'm a total newb to linux and I'm trying to get my Aureal Vortex 1 sound card to work with my Mandrake 9.2 distro. Unfortunately, the installation setup told me my sound card cannot be set up. So I have to manually do it. Trouble is, I downloaded alsa-driver-1.0.4 but I'm having trouble installing it. I think I'm using kernel 2.4.4 (or whatever 9.2 came with). I try to do ./configure and make but I get this "kernel not supported in 32 bit mode". Please help!! Thanks a lot! |
Could you do a uname -r? That will tell you which kernel you're running.

yes... I'm running 2.4.22-10mdk

I had a mobo with an onboard aureal vortex 8810 chip, and let me tell you, it's a pain to get it working...but if you're willing to do some work, then take a look at this post. I'm not sure if there have been any updated drivers atm(since I got rid of that mobo), but you can also do a search here for "aureal", and a number of treads will give you some direction for your ears. Have fun :) .

Just to cover all bases, did you use the line ./configure --with-cards=au88X0 --with-sequencer=yes (where X=1, 2, or 3) to configure the drivers?
Another thing I can think of is to try to get a 2.6 kernel. They have ALSA built in by default. |
sweet guys thanks so much for the replies....
i'm planning on switching to linux (maybe for good) if i can get my soundcard working. This will be my migration. |
