Experimenting with Mandrake and being frustrated with Windows. I downloaded the 10.1 DVD from the official site, burned dvd using dvd dycrypter, booted to dvd, followed the instructions, partitioned my hdd and when I click done, this error message pops up:
INTERNAL ERROR: no kernel availableMDK::Common::Various::internal_error() called from/usr/bin/perl-install/pkgs.pm:197pkgs::bestKernelPackage() called from /usr/bin/perl-install/install_any.pm:610install_any::setPackages() called from/usr/bin/perl-install/install_steps_interactive.pm:383install_steps_interactive::setPackages() called from/usr/bin/perl-install/install2.pm:78install2::installStepsCall() called from /usr/bin/perl-install/install2.pm:221install2::choosePackages() called from /usr/bin/perl-install/install2.pm:639(eval)() call called from /usr/bin/perl-install/install2.pm:638install2::main() called from /usr/bin/runinstall2:36
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the link. Went and downloaded the md5sum software and tested the .iso that was giving me the problems and sure enough, the md5sum of the official download site didnt match the md5sum of my .iso. So, I erased that .iso and downloaded a different .iso off a different mirror and check the md5sum with the download and it matched. Burn to a DVD, booted and it installed.
However, when i rebooted to dual boot, selected linux, it came to a log in screen. I entered the login I chose as well as the password I chose, clicked OK (or whatever) and the hourglass just starting spinning and spinning and after maybe 5 minutes I gave it. Is this normal for the intial install? Or what did I enter wrong. I thought I checked the box allowing me to log in without a password.
I assume that you managed to eventually login? What's the spec like on the machine you are running? Try searching for a solution as the problem sounds familiar. I've just found this post which might help: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/304683
You can verify that Mandrake is set to login automatically by loading up the Mandrake Control Centre and going to Boot --> Autologin where you should see a tick box offering the option to login automatically. If it's not ticked then you need to.
