thx for your help |
I have had a similar problem. I have 3 machines from a 1.4G athlon to a P4 2.6G ranging in time to load from 1 1/2 hr on the p4 to 35 min on the 1.4. II switched the cd reader in the machine and did the reload again. the time changed a lot. The p4 now loaded in 15 min and the 1.4 took 2hrs. It seam the cd readers don't read the cd's the same way. They are all the same brand but different models. I even work on a friends machine and hers wouldn't even read the cd The model of her cd reader was the same as on of mine but the manufacture dates were a month apart mine being the newer one. So I'd try a different cd reader. Don't always expect DVD to be a lot faster. In my experience the cd reader read cds fast then dvd.

lolo,
I saw a similar thread on linuxforum.com and the resolution there was that for some reason the CPU had been confiurged to run in Compatibility mode, which in the case of that persom meant an 100mhz. They eventually installed after 60 hours (wow what patience !!) Have you tried looking at the BIOS etc..? Just an Idea MG |
thanks for your help.
my problem is due to the motherboard and the chipset : partially recognize by Mandrake. I try the Fedora Core 2 and no problem : install in 15 minutes. |
What is the chipset, Motherboard model?
