Unhappy Inkscape won't run - Mandriva 2005

Hi, I have Mandriva 2005 and I installed an Inkscape rpm (for Mandrake) from a Linux Format magazine DVD.

It installed fine according to the message box, however no icon appeared anywhere, I can't get it to run from the "Run" command box, and when I go to where the exe is stored (in User/bin) and click on it, nothing happens.

Can someone help ?

Hello Metalinx,

At first I tried to run Inkscape using sudo but just got a wrong password error.

Then opened a root Konsole session and when I typed in "Inkscape" I got an error message which said it was unable to access a lib file.

I took note of the file name and did a search in my Mandrake package list and found it was on the original DVD, so I was able to install it.

Although there was no Icon in the menu afterwards, I was able to get it to run from a root Konsole, so I ran Menudrake and was able to put it on the Start menu and now it runs just fine.

So thank you for pointing me in the right direction Metalinx - you have helped me to learn some new things today! :-)
