IDE disks, terminals, help!
 

Alrighty. First off, I would like to know how to use a terminal! I tried some commands from another question I asked using konsole super user mode, logged in with the root password and typed some commands, all the commands I enter come back saying "bash: blahblah: command not found"... am I doing something wrong? after I type my password it says "root@ipaddress mitch: " .. is this the way it is supposed to look? (sorry guys, I don't know much about the way linux works yet.. just getting the hang of it, but I like it better than winblows already)

second question:

I am running everything off of my 4 GB hard drive and am running out of space quickly. I have a second hard drive that is 40GB in size installed on the computer but do not know how to access is in linux. I think what I would like to do is install windows 2000 on the 4gb drive, and then set about a 10 gb partition on the 40 GB drive to fat 32 for windows, then install Mandrake 9.2 when it comes out on the other part of the 40 gigger and use the rest of the space for linux stuff. Is this even possible? Can I have two operating systems booting from different hard drives? (not at the same time, of course). And will this interfere with my apache webserver? Is it possible to have apache run all the time, wether it is on windows or linux? Would I need to have two installs of apache, one on each OS with a copies of the same website for each install for that to work?

Any suggestions on how to get my box working nicely for this? Oh, and apparently the system is running at 233 mhz with 256 mb ram.. It is supposed to be running at 350mhz.. that's what it was when I bought this damn peice of junk.. :P Thanks folks!

I have three hard disks, one has two partitions, and two have 1 each. So that is no problem. You need to partition your 40gb drive. That can be done with fdisk. If you want to move linux from the 4gb to the 40gb, you may want to try a program like norton ghost.

BTW, after you use the su command and enter the root password, it should look something like "$root@localhost:"

And if it tells you "command not found", then just like dos, you haven't typed in the command correctly...or that command isn't available to you. What are you trying to do?

Example of commands:
cd - change directory
rmdir - remove directory
mkdir - make directory
vi - a text editor (stands for virtually impossible ;) )
ping - sends a request for info to a server
