I just got Mandrake 9.2 working right!!!

Now we're looking at upgrading to 10.1. How's that install like? Are there any server side gotchas i should be aware of? Installing on HP's with p4's and 128 mb of ram and a 40 gig hd. Graphics card works well with 9.2 so I'm not expecting any issues with 10.1 there. It has a floppy, cdrom, network and that's about it. Is the upgrade path convoluted or should i do a straight install?

hi,

i'm using 10.0 as my main operating system; have played a bit with 10.1. Installation is typically easy, but i would recommend you go for a clean install - don't try an 'upgrade'. I've got into a real tangle with Mandrake's upgrades - and reading others' experiences, it seems they're notoriously flaky.

It's worth it in the end - 10.x is nice, and the 2.6 kernel really does seem to make a very noticeable performance improvement..

Though I may add that with 10.x you'll want a bit more ram in the system for improved performance.

Thanks guys I'll look into more ram and I'll play around with the 10.1 distro just got a copy of the power pack distro today. Thanks for the tips guys.
