Mandriva should be able to read the NTFS partition right off the bat. Mandrake Linux would anyway. Cat out the file /proc/filesystems and see if "ntfs" is listed. Could you check using "lsmod" whether or not the ntfs module is loaded?

lsmod | grep ntfs

You may need to google for a Windows tool to be able to read a Linux partition. Such a program on Windows may only understand ext2.

It would be better to reserve a separate win32 partition. Both windows and linux can read and write to a win32 partition.

I missed the part of "dynamic" disk. I didn't realize you where using RAID or a striped set. Take a look at the sourceforge website for the NTFS project.

They have an LDM driver for working with Windows striped disks.
http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net/index.html

If you are using a raid controller, then a driver for that controller will enable you to read from the ntfs partition using the ntfs kernel driver. When I had XP on my desktop, I had two drives mirrored for XP partitions. The raid driver and the ntfs driver were two separate matters.
