I can't acces a Mandrake Linux Installation disc in your CD-ROM drive
Hi all, I'm new to the forum.
I'm not exactly a newbie (having installed in the past few versions of SUSE, Red Hat or Mandrake), but this time I got a problem I do not understand. I hope somebnody will help.
I did burn the three mandrake installation disc and used them to install Mandrake 10 on my computer (here at the office). It worked fine, now I can enjoy Mandrake!
Then I tried to do the same (with the same CDs) on the computer of a collegue of me.
It boots correctly from the CD (the CD2) (so it can read the CD); then try to start the installation
process. Then the Cd device start to turn like an helicopter for 5 minutes and after that... he says:

He can reach the CD-drive (since he did the boot) but apparently he cannot recognize the CD as installation CD of Mandrake. the same Cd I used (with success) in the previous case.
What can I do?
This computer is older: a Pentium 3 800/128/20. If you need more details... ask.
This is indeed a peculiar problem as the drive reads the initial boot up and stuff and then fails to read, in my case, a file from the CD into Ramdisk.
I was told that it is probable that my Toshiba CD drive has a problem with Linux. I replaced the Toshiba with a Hitachi and all went fine after that. Both these drive work fine with windows.
I see. And after the installation was successful did you try to reconnect the old CD-ROM?
I mean, do my collegue need a CD-ROM just for the time of the installation or ... to buy a new one?

Thank you very much!
No I haven't tried that as I am happy that it all works and the drive I used was a spare. I suppose I could try that just to see but I hate pulling things to bits when they are working OK. I suspect the drive will work OK in an installed system.
Although I said both CD drives worked OK under windows. I have noted even in windows that sometimes CD drives don't always read data correctly but it's usually consistent with not being able to read anything on a CD, not just certain files.
It seems that the Mandrake 10 installation doesn't like certain CD drives. If you install from a spare drive, the original drive may work perfectly after installation. At least, that's what I found.
