The simplest solution to all boot disk questions is to download Smart Boot Manager from the link at http://btmgr.sourceforge.net. The Linux binary is called sbminst, the DOS binary is called sbminst.exe.

By running sbminst you can create a single boot floppy that will allow you to boot from any CD from any distribution. Or any hard drive, or install it to the MBR if you want. Don't forget to write-protect the floppy once it's made to prevent it catching any nasty DOSeases.

One thing to note is that sometimes SBM pops up an error like "Error on disk!" and then proceeds to work perfectly anyway.

I carry a Smart Boot Manager floppy in my kit with my MandrakeMove, Knoppix, BeatrIX and Ubuntu disks for those occasions when I want to use a PC that won't boot from the CD.

I have no connection with SBM, I am merely a very satisfied customer. :)
