How to raise audio level?

New linux install, Mandrake 9.1
I have very low audio levels. The volume in the system tray shows 31% and the slider is moved to the top. In mixer window, everything is moved to the top. and still I have to make the speaker volume to max to hear regular volume.

aumix shows different volumes at different levels, but none is at 31%

Where do I fix this?

Thanks

In the mixer panel of aumix make sure the Pcm volume is turned up high as well as the volume and CD setting.
