I compiled and installed the kernel. I got that all working, but now when I boot, the various boot messages are in standard dumb terminal text. I use to have a nice colored background with colored text, like green "OK" after each message during boot. Somehow I lost it.
what boot manager are you using? Lilo? if so search for Lilo.conf howto, there is an option for video mode and graphic vs txt boot.
Mandrake control center has some configuration options for lilo and grub under boot -> drakboot. But you can get more control over it if you learn all the options in lilo.conf.
enlight1, forgive me for translating, do you mean after grub or lilo gives boot options, the actual initrd install message screen and the kernel message screen no longer have the right hand OK messages?
me thinks the lilo and grub post may be misleading if I am right, but dunno am often wrong, heh heh
OK, nothing unusual in dmesg. I am using Lilo. The Lilo boot screen comes up correctly with the menu to select which system to boot. The problem comes after I select the system and the boot process begins. There is a bootsplash.jpg that is supposed to get displayed as a background while the system is going through its startup. That background splash screen is not showing any more.
ok i assumed green ok text was your initrd stuff, silly me, have a look in /boot and /boot/grub see if a file exists starting with splashimage then post what you find and your /boot/grub menu.1st file
No splash image in there or in grub. I am using Lilo and I tried with the drakboot to fix it. I don't think theproblem has to do with Lilo, I think it is in the initscripts.
