hi i just installed mandrake 9.2 and i'm having problem getting on the internet, my mother board is a msi k7n420 pro which has the card built in, when mandrake searches it tell me i can't find any devices is there a way to get it to? i'm very new to this so step by step answeres would be apreciated thanks in adavance,
i'm assuming you have (A)DSL. if so, have you tried running DrakConnect from Mandrake Control Center (MCC)? go to MCC->internet->new connection. use the wizard, fill in the blanks. if it doesn't detect the eth0 card in there, then try going to hardware->hardware detection & see if the device is listed. if not, run the new hardware detection wizard from there.
it could also be that the card on that board is not supported & you might need external drivers for it. having no experience with that card (myself), if all else fails you may want to look into that scenerio.
acpi (automatic power configuration interface) can cause onboard and some pci cards to share there irq`s which in this case could be the problem u have in not being able to use your internet connection. When u boot up your computer u need to access your bios before ur operating system kicks in. This, in most cases, would mean hitting the `delete` button or u may notice on your monitor what the command is (hit delete to enter set up or something like that) then u will see the bios set up for your pc, do not be afraid to look at everything u see, just go through it all until u find the `acpi-on` and then change this to `acpi-off` then press f10 u will be asked if u want to save changes `ok` this and then boot up as normal. If this doesn`t help u can always repeat the process and change it back again. A word of advice only change one thing at a time in your bios cos if u go round trying to change everything and things go wrong u won`t know or remember what caused the problem. If u r still unsure about it then look up the spec of your mobo on google and check out the advice for altering or updating/flashing ur bios. When u have tried altering to acpi-off and if u r still unable to find the device/ or are unsure what to do next then post again :-)
well, i've never heard of that one, but it might be worth a try if that's what you read. just go into your BIOS & look for the ACPI setting & set it to off. simple as that. if that don't work, try my other suggestions.
well it seams to be detecting the card now but it won't connect to the internet still, i'm not familiar with the set up in the mcc i've mess around with it but it still says dissconected
