Help in regards to Wirless internet connection on Toshiba Tecra S1

I am total newbie to linux, as of yet I dont even know how to install rpm, .bin pacakges. I hope you get the point....
I have a Toshiba Tecra S1 laptop and I am using Mandrake 10.1 official distro. For some reason I am unable to configure my wireless internet.(PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter) I tried to manually load the driver harddrake --> Ehernet --> PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter --> Run Config Tool -->Wireless connection --> Manually load a driver --> from the list available I chose: ipw2100 --> Autoprobe. but nothing happens..as soon as I click next after selecting Autoprobe, there is a minisecond flash and I am brought back to the menu, where I am supposed to select Wireless or Lan connections...Your reply would be much appreciated.
P.S -- please keep in mind that I am totally new to linux, and havnt ever in my life done any programming. My knowledge bout computers is very very limited...

That maybe your wired ethernet, post
dmesg | grep Ethernet
and
lspci | grep Ethernet
also what happens when you;
# modprobe ipw2100 <--- You need to run this as root
Once the interface shows up you can connect like this,
But I don't use Mandrake so it may be a little different;
Code:
sbin/iwconfig

/sbin/iwlist wlan0 scan

/sbin/iwconfig wlan0 essid ESSID #(By the way the
ESSID in upper case should be replaced by the network ID like "linksys_54g"_
_or whatever it is. This can be seen when you type in scan,
and the essid is listed next to the access point of choice)

iwconfig wlan0 mode Managed

then finally:

/sbin/ifconfig wlan0 up
or
/sbin/dhclient wlan0 (i do this one, but depends on which you have on system)
or
/sbin/dhcpcd wlan0
Post back what happens...

Do the following command: lsmod | grep ipw

What results does that net? You will probably also have to install the ipw2100 firmware from the following location:

http://ipw2100.sourceforge.net/firmware.php

Put the files here:

/lib/firmware
