Is you CD-ROM/Writer working fine?

One of the reasons may be this, that if your CD-ROM/Writer is not working fine, then it would cause you HDD Led to glow continously.....

Other reason, is if u have bad sectors (or old hdd), then, the data is not being able to be read by in that partition.

Else, u ask your hardware engineer, to check the cable connections of the hdd.

I have had experiences of the hdd led glowing continuously and hence, I mentioned about this.

However, if the mdk mount command is leading to this then, please check the commnds by doing a search. Hopefully, there would be some changes, that would set things right.

When I was dual-booting my Dell Inspiron 4000 with win2k and mdk-10, it seemed to work ok, but when I was on the Linux side, the hd was constantly seeking. In fact it was thrashing.

I finally took Linux off of the notebook, because of it. I have never had this happen on a regular desktop computer, whether dual-boot or Linux only.

I have stopped experimenting with dual-boot machines, and now set them up with one OS or another. I only have one Windows machine left, and that is for the purpose of running Windows-only hardware, most notably, my Lexmark multi-function machine.

I have found that by going through the expense of purchasing Linux compatible hardware, that even if I were to go back to Windows, my new hardware would still work. This is not true the other way around.

Michael

I have the same problem.
It is not that the disk has bad sectors. It has something to do with ahci
When i have the disk in "native ide" mode and i use piix sata driver everything is ok.
When i use the ahci driver the led is always on. The speed is fine, the cpu load is fine.
Everything works perfectly. Just the led is on.

I haven't yet found a solution (other than not use ahci)

The "hung" HDD light can come from improperly jumpered drives. Check out this page and make sure you have your harddrive and cdrom drive jumper set correctly.

well tell me.
I got the same laptop. Did you delete all your partitions first or what???

I created the restore disks from the restore partition and am thinking of deleting it and using it as backup space. Comes up as firewall in Kanotix/Mepis. ........
Just deciding instead to Install Linux over the entire thing and then reinstall With 2 partitions and use the first for a reinstall of Windows XP. The Nvidia graphics work well. You need to tweak XF86Config-4 and add 1280x800 resolution.

What frame rates are you getting in Gears or something, please let me know? I'm on Kanotix and everything works, thought Mandriva was broken.

Hi...

First i maked the vaio cd's, next i deleted ALL (and the rescue partition to) partitions, my hard drive is 80GB and i maked one partition (30GB) for winXP (with fdisk... and remember activate this partition), next i restored the original software in the partition, finally with the Mandrake LE2005 DVD i maked the linux partition.... In my case i had to select the driver for the HDD controller ata_piix...

I have an un-mounted CD in my CDRW and it is alway's glowing "amber" when mounted and being accessed it glows "green". When writing glows "red"... Don't know what the color is when mounted/idle but if your CD is working OK... don't worry about it...
