Has anyone installed Verizon UM150 USB Internet access in Mandriva '08

Has anyone been able to activate the Verizon UM150 USB Internet access wand ? If so, can you relay the steps you took to connect it. Thanks. Nick

First I had to use a windows system to first login after that I was able to get GNome ppp and a few quick changes to get wireless card to work.

Try the following:

I have an easier method of getting the UM150 Alltel card to work in Ubuntu 8.04 using Gnome PPP.

Open Gnome PPP:

1. Enter number@alltel.net
2. Enter Password, "Alltel"
3. Enter Number to dial - #777
4. Press Setup
a. Press "Detect" to detect wireless card - should get /dev/ttyACMO
b. Type - "Anolog Modem"
c. Speed 115200
d. Select "INIT Strings"
a. Should see the following - ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0

5. Close and try to connect.
6. If you press log you should see the connection process.
a. Take note of local ip address

7. Open terminal and log in as root/sudo
a. update routing table
1. route add default gw xxx.xx.xxx.xx

This has worked very well for me. Except for the fact that I still need to manually update routing table this is much easier than the other method I outlined before.

Hope that this works for you. Notice that /dev/ttyACM0 may not be the same in your particular system.

I have finally got Openvpn to work through the um150 wireless card. I downloaded and installed KVpnc and did the following.

After setting up through the helper routines I made sure to set "fix mtu discovery problem" under Network > general,
and under Network > routes made sure to "Keep default route" for soome reason it kept wanting to change routes.

After that it seems to work fairly well. Though I live way out over 20 miles from town so sometimes the connection can be lost.

Well, I think I have said all that I can about how to get the um150 wireless card to work within v8.04.

If anyone needs additional help I am always willing to help.

Rob
