Harddrake segmentation error.

I've been following the tutorial here on my freshly-installed Mandrake 10.1 Official box.

After installing "mythtv-suite", I am getting a failure with Harddrake...

[root@computer rc5.d]# ./S05harddrake start
Checking for new hardware./S05harddrake: line 54: 4839 Segmentation fault (core dumped) /usr/share/harddrake/service_harddrake 2>/dev/null
[FAILED]

The MythTV installed also caused another problem with a Perl library, which I had to create a symbolic link to in "/usr/lib".

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

hmm... It's hard to give advise to you. There's some problems (damaged disk, memory, or software...)
So,
>1 Test your harddrive ( fsck )and/or memory ( I knew a useful tool is memtest86 )
http://www.memtest86.com
>2 If hardware have no problem, re-install the OS.
If you want to keep you old setting ( before re-installation), just NOT format "/home" partition.

I have the same problem... I dont want to re-install my entire OS again... I used memtest, left it running 16 times (while I was at work) and had 0 errors.

Here's what I know so far... When booting my linuxbox, I get the error as explained above:

Quote:
Checking for new hardware./S05harddrake: line 54: 4839 Segmentation fault (core dumped) /usr/share/harddrake/service_harddrake 2>/dev/null
same line (54) everything. Just out of curiosity, line 54 is this in the 'service_harddrake' file:

Code:
      #    s!#*( Load.*glx)!\1g;
if I try to run service_harddrake manually, I get this error:

Code:
[root@localhost harddrake]# ./service_harddrake
Segmentation fault
[root@localhost harddrake]#
And if I try programs like 'urpmi' i get this:

Code:
[root@localhost harddrake]# urpmi
Can't locate URPM.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.6/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.6/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.4 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.3 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.1 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl .) at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/urpm.pm line 16.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/urpm.pm line 16.
Compilation failed in require at /usr/sbin/urpmi line 22.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/sbin/urpmi line 22.
[root@localhost harddrake]#
I would like to re-install harddrake again, but can't find the source anywhere! Their homepage is broken... but perhaps I could use rpm to install it?

Any ideas?

This reply isn't a solution to the problem, but since I posted I have installed Fedora Core 3 as the OS for my MythTV box. MythTV installed very easily, I got the WinTV-PVR-350 card installed fine, loaded the drivers for my wireless NIC (although still need to configure it), and am now just waiting for my nVidia MX400 graphics card to arrive.

I had a lot less hassle with Fedora Core 3 for this task (MythTV), but I still use Mandriva for my desktop Linux box.

HardDrake segmentation error ..the solution

Hi everybody...I'm running a Mandrake 10.1 community with some addons
after installing a software for TV video card i've had some problem about segmentation error.
Harddrake urpmi and many others software don't work anymore.
I've found the cause...while installing the new TV software i've also installed some Perl Library ...
Harddrake, urpmi and the others tool need an older version of Perl in order to work properly.
The solution is : download an older version of perl and install it
I've downloaded perl-5.8.5.3 and perl-base 5.8.5.3 rpm packages from rpmfind http://rpmfind.net/
but you can find perl and rpms packages in other sites too.
To install the packages use this command :
rpm -i --force <packagename>
You have to install perl-base package first .
The --force options is needed to install package even if dependencies aren't right.
My Linux Distributions is working fine now.."just like before".
I hope the same to you...
