A little more information is required.
What happens when you enter the following command:
startx
Do you see any error messages?
What is the make / model of the video card?

try going to Mandrake Control Center->boot->auto login & make sure the "start graphical display.........." box is checked.

otish1000c how can he go thru the menus to the Mandrake Control Center with no gui?

To set the graphics in command line.
Type in "XFdrake" but without the quotes(It is case sensitive) . It will run the graphics configuration program.

P.S. Please don't use all caps its considered shouting.

if your computer can get into the graphical display by typing 'startx' and you want it to do that everytime it boots, edit the /etc/inittab file as root

where you see something similar to this:

id:3:initdefault:

right below the list of available runlevels at the top;
edit that number to a 5, and reboot.

ya, i ass-u-me'd he knew about startx, then he could just use MCC->boot->autologin to set it there. more fool me...........

at the prompt, type startx to get to graphical mode, then do what student04 or i suggested in my earlier post for graphical login.

If startx dosn't work than what student04 and otish1000c wont work. However XFdrake is the command line version of what otish1000c suggested. If that still dosn't work than well need information about your video card. So we can give even more help.
