Question GUI exits after seconds

Hi guys,
I´m hoping somebody can help me. I´m pretty much a linux newbie and I installed Mandriva 2007 free edition on my Maxdata laptop the install went smoothly but when I type startx or startx kde , gnome or kfce the gui starts to load I get a blue screen which instantly changes to red, the cursor appears and then the gui shuts down and the following error appears:
(==)log file: "/var/log/xorg.o.log"
(==)using config file: "/etc/x11/xorg.conf"
using vt 7
(EE) aiglx: dri module not loaded
the XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
warning: type "one_level" has 1 levels, but [RALT] has 2 symbols
ignoring extra symbols
errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the x server
waiting for x server to shut down

then back to command prompt.

I am running mandriva on a system with p4-m 2.4ghz, 512ram, 32mb nvidia geforce2go graphics card. The graphcs card was detected as nvidia geforce generic, i think.
Also when I ran the install I only used cd1, is it possible I need a driver or something from one of the other cds?

I would greatly appreciate any advice anyone can offer.
Cheers.

You'll eventually want to install the nvidia driver yes, but you should be able to start X without them. Try editing your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and commenting out the dri module.

$ su
<enter password>
$ vim /etc/X11/xorg.conf
<press INSERT>
Quote:
# Load "dri"
<press ESC>
: wq
<press enter>
$ startx

See if that fixes it.
