GTK installed, yet ./configure can't find it

So the two programs I've tried to compile, XMMS and Gimp, cannot find GTK+. I've tried everything, so can someone help me?

I've tried doing URPMI GTK+ and it says everything is installed.

I beg to differ...

have you installed libgtk+1.2-devel, like I suggested to you in this post?

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...02#post1091602

You aren't going to get anywhere until you do....

EDIT:

You'll need

libgtk+2.0_0-devel

and possibly

libgtk+-x11-2.0_0-devel

for gimp as well.

I beg to differ...

[root@localhost ken]# urpmi libgtk+
The following packages contain libgtk+: libgtk+mdk0.1_6 libgtk+-x11-2.0_0 libgtk+-linuxfb-2.0_0-devel libgtk+1.2 libgtk+mdk0.1_6-devel libgtk+1.2-devel libgtk+extra0-devel libgtk+-linuxfb-2.0_0 libgtk+extra0 libgtk+2.0_0-devel libgtk+-x11-2.0_0-devel libgtk+2.0_0
[root@localhost ken]# urpmi libgtk+2.0_0-devel
Everything already installed
[root@localhost ken]# urpmi libgtk+-x11-2.0_0-devel
Everything already installed

So as you can see, everything is "installed" already. So how do I get these programs to recognize these things??

What is the output of:

# cat /usr/lib/pkgconfig/gtk+-2.0.pc

EDIT:

Also, can you find the exact error in config.log

I am unable to post my config.log. It says it's too long of a post, which it is.

To be honest, I do not notice the problem. What do I need to do? I'm a newbie when it comes to Linux.

The gimp configure is looking for gtk 2.2.2 or greater

Quote:

You have version 2.2.1.

I have never used Mandrake, it uses RPMs right? (I hve never used Mandrake or an RPM based distro)

If the above is right, you can look for an RPM package for a greater version of GTK2.

Alternatively you can build the latest (stable) version from source. It is not as hard as everyone makes out, but you need to build the prerequisites in the following order. I would remove the existing equivalent packages if you have them installed beforehand - this may mean you have to build it from a console.

pkgconfig-0.15.0
libpng-1.2.5
jpegsrc.v6b
tiff-v3.6.1
glib-2.4.5
pango-1.4.1
atk-1.6.1
gtk2-2.4.4

Have a look at http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/stable for how to build the individual packages.

Remeber... if you don't try stuff you don't learn anyhing.

Ah, yes, that makes sense. Thanks for pointing out the error. I may post in this again if I have trouble compiling from source. Wish me luck!

Try to make sure that where you install something is on your path.
Try echo $PATH and then install the library in that part.
Good luck.
