Getting my USB modem to work and the net connection running

I have a few things that are not clear to me from reading my book ( Linux for Dummies ) and from reading around the forums and various docs and wikis regarding connecting to the net.

1 ) Firstly, ( probably a silly question ) but will I need to install my modem drivers? Just wondering if the install might already contain drivers for my modem ( speedtouch 330 )? I'm guessing that is a big NO... but nothing wrong with being optimistic lol

2 ) I downloaded the source code for the modem ( USB Speedtouch 330 ) It's a TAR file but it has .bz2 after the .tar ( the full file name is: speedtouch-131.tar.bz2 ) is this a normal file and can I compile it with the instructions given in the stuck thread regarding tar and rpms or something else needs doing?

3 ) I thought I would have a look around my Mandriva live that I am running to scout out the internet settings. My book says that I should find them by: System Configuration -> Mandriva Control center -> Internet and Network -> Setup. The problem is, that when I looked, I don't find "set up" listed. I can't see "Set up" listed because I'm using the live CD or am I missing something?

I know a lot of questions. Thanks loads for any help! It's really appreciated :-)
