I believe sound on my Linux build is working okay. I can use XMMS to play MP3s.
Last night I was goofing around on a gaming website - one of those simple web-based arcade kind of games, nothing elaborate. I noticed though that the sound wasn't working on the game. After shutting down the browser, I noticed that XMMS wouldn't play anymore. In fact, it would hang - I couldn't even close it the usual way.
Another oddity I noticed: I minimized XMMS (was going to KILL it later), but then I forgot about it and restarted the machine. On restarting, it brought up XMMS again. This time it was able to play just fine, but going to that website again messed up sound in the same way.
1. Is it possible that some websites just mess up sound in Linux??
2. How did Mandrake remember my open applications? I thought restarting would completely clear out the memory.
Sorry, again pushed the wrong button.
1- Yes, some sites mess up the sound in a strange way, it happened to me on the NPR site. Very similar to your description.
2- If you're using KDE, it opens all the applications which where open when it shut down.
1. Do we just have to put up with these websites messing up sound? I don't mind so much if a particular website will not play correctly, but it shouldn't mess up other sound properties.
2. Yes, I'm running KDE. Is there a simple setting that closes applications before shutdown? I looked around a little last night & will look again unless you know of a simple solution.
