Force Linux to NOT detect hardware??

Hi,

I was wondering how I can force Mandrake into not detecting a specific USB device when it starts up. Basically I have a Flash card reader, but Manny doesn't seem to cope with it all that greatly. For example I can put a card in, it'll take 5 mins to mount it, then wont unmount it afterwards.

Forcing it to mount or unmount encounters more probs. Neway, I'm using VMware to access my Windows partition, but would like to know how I can disable the USB flash card reader from bein used in Mandrake so that I can use it in VMware.

The issue isnt a problem, VMware detects the card reader fine, but when it tries to take control it says that the usb mass storage driver in the Host (mandrake) is busy controllin it,s o I need to disable this before it will let me use it.

thanks for any info.

Mandrake probably uses kudzu to auto-detect hardware. I haven't used mandrake in a long time so i don't know how to disable it but you will probably have too look for a services option somewhere in the VM that you use (KDE is Mandrake's default). This will disable Mandrake from auto-detecting new hardware everytime it boots.
If you can't fine a servives option anywhere you might want to open a terminal an browse around the /etc/rcX.d/ directories (where X is the runlevel you use).

go to Mandrake Control Center->system->services, turn off HardDrake & prevent it from starting at boot.
