Exiting X server

I'm trying to install a graphics driver in Mandrake 10.1, and i need to exit the X server. The question of course is how do i do that?

Thanks for the help.

Try Ctrl-Alt-Backspace

That just logs me out from my computer.

The Ctrl-Alt-Bksp use to exit X windows but dosen't in Mandrake anymore. Try going to the control center and change the current display driver to a standard SVGA, you should be able to update your video then. You can also set the boot section (in control center) to not start the graphics on bootup too.

Is there a "login from console" option then?

I use KDE, so that's how I get to the console (logout then select login from console).

Well, i tried to log in from failsafe, but it still said i needed to exit X server

I'll try the control center thing next.

Since you seem to be in runlevel 5 (boot to X) you can do two things to temporarily enter console mode.
Either press <Ctrl><Alt><F2> , login as root and run 'service dm stop'. Do your thing and run 'service dm start'.
Or from a terminal in X (as root) run 'init 3' and you'll change runlevel to "console". Afterwards you can either
run 'startx' as your normal user or 'init 5' as root.
