Everything went to the trash!!!
 

Again me... ups. I do not know what happened.

today in the morning when i try to turn un my Laptop, a error message that said something like /var/tmp was full and no space was left to load XFreeserver86.0.

I try to free some space via command line but was useless, after an all morning battle I simply give up and reestart all mandrake 9.1 Then try to use the actual partitions, useless, the thing is that after format all my hard drive and repartiton it, it only reads 9 Gb when my drive is 18Gb long.

Just yesterday I back up my info using the bakup tool of the mandrake config center, usless (or I do not know what tha... i have backed up or how to recover it)

The thing is that I am shocked that this happend... do you have any idea of what goes rong, I have updated everything that mandrake told me to update.

Hi - it seems like you might have made a mistake when installing mandrake. Did you use custom disk partitioning option & delete all pre-existing partitions before installing mandrake? If not this could be a reason why half of your hard disk space is missing (could it be a windows partition taking up half the space???)

I have noticed that when I use the 'automatic allocation' of disk space option, things do not install as i would expect.

I would wait & see what others might suggest to you, but unfortunately, i think you will need to re-install. It does help if you take a few notes when you do the partitioning to remember how your disk space is allocated.

if you use custom disk partitioning i always partition with the following:

/
/usr
/var
/home
swap

It is up to you to allocate the space. But read up on how much space / requires. /usr space normally depends on the quantity of packages you are installing.
