Enabling PCMCIA on 10.1

When installing I had to disable all hardware detection on my Compaq Presario Laptop in order to get install to complete.

No I need to enable and Start PCMCIA at boot time but using the Services Manager in the KDE does not start the service.

I am new to Linux, but am comfortable with entering commands in a shell window.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
You won't do anything worth the mentionning on the KDE control center.
Since you are using Mandrake 10.1, you can try in MCC (mandrake Control Center)
Choose system, I think then Services : you will be presented with a gui to enable
services such as PCMCIA.

Cheers

Thanks, but as I mentioned, I am new to all this.

The MCC is what I used, but clicking on Start next to PCMCIA (initially shows as enable at boot, and stopped) does nothing.

Any other ideas?

Yes, reboot and press (I) the letter i to enter interactive mode, then if I am not

mistaken you will have a chance to enable it at this stage of booting.

You will have to say Yes or No to a number of things, choose the ones you want..

Cheers

I don't seem to be able to enter interactive mode. But I did notice that PCMCIA is started ok in the startup section. Then checking in MCC it shows as stopped.

Is there a way of starting it from a shell window?

Did you just type i or "capital" i ?

You must type it like C or D, R... not as i

You can try "start pcmcia" in the shell but I am not sure at all. I have a desktop

which does not have a slot for such cards.

Hope that helps

If it is ok at startup, it should work.. Very strange

OK. Eventually got the interactive mode to start, but with no effect.

Startup says it has started OK but when in KDE the MCC says it has stopped, and I am unable to start it again using the Start button.

Is there an event type log that might tell me why it has stopped?
