Unhappy Editing lilo.conf

I've been using Linux for about 2 weeks and was wondering how to edit lilo.conf. I have a dual hard drive system and want to boot Windows XP pro off of the 2nd hard drive. I have found a help page on the internet on how to trick Windows that it's on the primary IDE master hard drive, but when I try to edit lilo.conf, as it says to do in the help page, it lets me type in stuff, but when I try to save it, it says I don't have write priveleges.

For a nice graphical alternative, the Drake system admin menus have a good utility for editing lilo (and grub).
