Mandriva 2008.0 (64bit),
I have problem playing back DVD.not a problem so much with AVI video.
But for example Xine's screen is blurred when I open it.
----I just got new boad(ECS GS7610 ultra Athron 3200+,on boad SIS video).
yea, they have propietry drivers, you'll only get them in AGP rather than PCI, mind i'm a little behind the times in expansion cards, i still only have AGP and PCI slots on my MB, i've heard there's a new kind of PCI slot aimed at Video expansion cards, nVidia are industry leaders in GPU's so i suggest you get one of their cards, don't go too overboard though, linux really doesnt require a high powered card, their generally aimed at gamers, and linux is generally poor with games, so the average linux user that wants to have decent graphics should just buy a second hand 128-256mb graphics card, GeForce2 MX/MX 400 works fine as long as you don't want 3d acceleration, your best off if you can get a GeForce4 based card though, they havn't been put in the legacy drivers so nVidia still support them.
once you put the card in you should install "nvidia-glx" from your software repo's and you'll have full OpenGL and maybe even 3d acceleration
Just a note, Nvidia drivers work for PCI, AGP, and PCIe. (I myself run an SLi box in Linux with two 7600GS chips)So it does not matter which Nvidia card one owns or which system one has. I would also add that any Nvidia chipset utilizing their 6100 on-board chip works quite well in accelerated graphics. It is the only on-board chip worth having if one wishes to build an inexpensive machine. ID does a good job with Linux games. (DoomIII, RTCW)
Linux games? Have you tried sauerbraten? Quake-like shootem up.
It's from the Cube2 engine. Also check out policeforces, CS:S type and AssultCube also built on the Cube2 engine.
Sorry for the hijack.
Cheers, Glenn
