DVD disappears after USB drive connect

I am running MDK 10.1. I just connected a USB drive an now konqueror will not start. Also the icon for my DVD drive has dissapeared. I thought it might be a mount problem so I created /mnt/usb and edited my fstab to look like this:

/dev/hdb1 / ext3 defaults 1 1
/dev/hdb6 /home ext3 defaults 1 2
/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom auto umask=0,user,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,noauto,ro,exec,users 0 0
none /mnt/floppy supermount dev=/dev/fd0,fs=ext2:vfat,--,umask=0,iocharset=iso8859-1,sync,codepage=850 0 0
/dev/hda1 /mnt/windows ntfs umask=0,user,nls=iso8859-1,noauto,ro 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hdb5 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/sda1 /mnt/usb auto umask=0,noauto,user 0 0

After reboot, I still have the same problem.

dmesg only shows this related message:

"cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!"

It's like it's interpreting /dev/sda1 as /dev/cdrom.

I can browse the USB drive from the command line.

What the heck is going on?

dmesg shows:

hiddev0: USB HID v1.10 Device [American Power Conversion Back-UPS BR 800 FW:9.o2 .D USB FW2] on usb-0000:00:03.1-1
usbcore: registered new driver usbhid
drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: v2.0:USB HID core driver
hdc: ATAPI 48X DVD-ROM DVD-R CD-R/RW drive, 2048kB Cache, UDMA(33)
Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20
sis900.c: v1.08.07 11/02/2003
eth0: Realtek RTL8201 PHY transceiver found at address 1.
eth0: Using transceiver found at address 1 as default
eth0: SiS 900 PCI Fast Ethernet at 0xe400, IRQ 10, 00:0d:87:ff:96:db.

If I turn off the USB drive and restart X I can get back into the DVD drive and konqueror works again. I can't get konqueror to throw an error messege to I don't know what it's looking for.

So, nobody knows what's going on? I can't have an external hard drive and a DVD drive?
