Is the all in one printer connected directly to your computer? If it is, you should be able to set it up using the Mandriva Control Center (Tools > System Tools > Configure Your Computer in the menu system)

Select Hardware in the navigation list (left).

Open the Set up the printer(s), the print job queues, ... icon then follow the directions. Mandriva supports many recent all-in-one printer-scanners, and yours may be supported as well. If Mandriva does not detect your device, try setting it up manually. You will get a list from which to choose containing all supported devices.

HTH,

Hi Ernie,
Thanks for your response.
The printer was connected, but I have disconnected it after several failed attempts at installing it.
The automatic installer detected the printer correctly as soon as I plugged it in, however, the installer application did not recognize mouseclicks or even application-killer. I had to restart.

I attempted the install using your directions from above. The first two responses I got was "CUPS could not be installed" and the screen turned gray. That was it. The third time, it prompted me for the installation media. I wish I could have guessed that the first two times!

Anyway, the printer is printing now..I just have to figure out how to print draft copies, which is my normal, ink-saving default. The incorporated scanner is not installed. It was not specifically supported, but generally, within the HP Photosmart series. Soooo...I will be attempting to muddle my way through installing one of the scanner drivers.

Thanks so much, Ernie.

When your screen goes grey, just wait. It (mandriva) may be downloading and/or configuring your device or checking a database.

Some times I wait for upto a minute before told what is happening.

By the way, that's a hot laptop you have there!

Cheers, Glenn

Glenn,
Thanks for your response!
I think you're probably right about waiting after the screen goes gray...I just don't have patience enough, I think!
Along with that, being new to the system, I don't know what is going on, so veterans like yourself telling my that sometimes a gray screen just means to wait, is VERY helpful.

Thank you also for complimenting my machine
You don't know how right you are about it's "hotness"! Usually rather warmer on my lap than I prefer. LOL!
