Downloading with bittorrent from inside my lan/wired network

Hi - I have d/l for maybe 8 years in Mandriva using Bittorrent.

About a year ago I managed to set up a wired network in our home and the pc's communicate with the internet and to each other - Mandriva to XP and Kubuntu to XP. So far so good.

I have my network set up so one (XP) pc is connected directly to the internet using 'Set up a home or small business network' in XP and the others connect to this one via a switch or hub. The others with XP connect with the internet through that one and they can all (XP) communicate and exchange files backwards and forwards.

Since then I have not been able to get Bittorrent to work in Mandriva: I have tried all combinations I can think of in 'set up personal firewall' and 'advanced' - '58815/tcp' etc but it does not 'listen' so I cannot seed.

Kubuntu 'torrents' out of the box and Xp can also torrent through the 'gateway'.

Can someone help please?

BTW at the moment I have the firewall in the XP machine disabled and the firewall in the Mandriva pc connecting to 'everything' ! Just to see and still no incoming...

Hello,

What all client programs have you tried using? Have you tried resetting the settings to application defaults?

Cheers,

Josh

Problem solved!

corp769: Thanks for your response. I was using Deluge and had previously tried Transmission and Ktorrent but this morning tried them again: KTorrent is still apparently permanently 'stalled' - don't know if this is personal to me but think I have seen postings from others.

Transmission says my port is open! Wonderful! So I am seeding happily...

Awesome then, glad to hear that you got it working. I think this is the shortest troubleshooting yet that I've done all week

Cheers,

Josh

Yeah. I still have the firewall down in Mandriva but the computer I go through to connect is firewalled so all should be safe enough.

Yesterday I had checked the box to allow bittorrent through then unchecked when I told it to 'allow all'. I notice today the box is gone to allow bittorrent, that seemed a little odd.

Anyhow thanks again!
