DNS is not caching

I have Mandrake 10 2.4.25-4mdk-i686-up-4GB

My computer is not caching any DNS queries and is doing a new lookup for each new connection, even if it's loaded the page already and is now fetching images from the same server. What do I need to do to correct this?

Setup a dns cache.
eg. one of dnsmasq, pdnsd (and probably lwresd) should do just that.

I'm just coming back from a long period not using linux. I never did manage to get any of those running. I gave it a good try but I just couldn't figure out how to do it.

Is there an easy-to-understand tutorial somewhere on how to get a dns cache going? For some reason my ISP's DNS servers are slow as molasses lately. I've complained but they claim there is no problem. I've started using remote proxy servers just to be able to avoid my ISP's DNS servers.

Ok, this looks fairly easy to carry out: http://packetstormsecurity.nl/papers...l/caching.html

Will that work for me on Mandrake 10.1? I looked in /etc and there is no named.conf in there. The only place on the whole hard drive I found a named.conf was in /usr/share/doc/dhcp-common-3.0.1/doc/dhcp-dynamic-dns-examples/bind/etc
