Default web browser

Surely there has got to be a way to set the default web browser in Linux! I have set file associations for html to open in my web browser, but if i am clicking a link it prefers to download the page then open up the temp, fairly moronic when all the links on the site are trying to go to local locations! Or if i get it to open (konqueror) it will open remotely, but display the bloody source code! What a freaking ridiculous way to manage links! So can anyone tell me how i set firefox to be my default browser?

in Kontrol Center file associations, you're on the right track. you have to find the .htm(l) extension, set it to the browser of your choice to open, then in the other tab (i can't remember the name right now.........at work without the linux box) you need to click the correct option for how you want the action to occur. just look at the other tab there & look at the settings, you'll see what i mean. don't forget to click "apply" when done.

so there isn't an option to sepcify that http:// should be handled by a browser and .html files should be handled by quanta? cos i would like to specify between opening local html files, and loading links.... even if it involves some shell scripting, i don't mind, i just need to know how to go about it. ie - how to specifiy between the two.
