cron is running but jobs aren't

I have a Mandriva 2006 installation and have a number of cron jobs (the standard ones like logrotate and some custom ones). cron starts without error and is running all the time, but it isn't executing any of the cron jobs--I looked at /var/log/messages and it had 400,000 rows spread over many months, indicating that it is never rotating the logs. Also I know other weekly jobs I set up to update packages are not running.

Any ideas? I don't see any errors recorded anywhere but it doesn't seem to be doing anything! Thanks.

Probably a dumb sugestion, but did you check that all the jobs are marked as executables?

Yeah, I did consider that--they are all executable. Most of them are the jobs installed by default during the system installation.

Another dumb suggestion : are you sure your computer is turned on at the time the cronjobs should be executed ?
If not, you should use anacron instead of cron.
