if it says "the list of updates is void" (or something like that) then it means you've already installed those updates and there's no new ones to install, IIRC.
I familar with what it means but since I've installed no updates, there must be something else wrong. I went so far as to check a few of the version numbers between installed software and those in the update queue. They don't match. Something isn't quite right but unfortunately it doesn't give much information.
I'm going to try mucking around with mine and see what I can see. I think you may have to use a webserver and add it not as "local files" but as "security updates" with url http://localhost/path/ but I'm not 100% sure. I'll let you know if I get it working.
Now I'm at a total loss. I'm right where you are on it and having the same problems though I don't see why it would be like that. Odd. I tried using the webserver, local files, just not working. (i'm on 9.2 but getting the same kinds of errors). I even tried regenerating my hdlist instead of the one on the server to no avail.
