creating command lines and autostarting programs?!
 

ok. So i just installed firefox, but I was curious how to create a command line (after hitting Alt+F2) so i can just type FireFox and it should load. Also, i installed aMSN and would like it to load at startup. Secondly, I am curious how to uninstall Konquer now tha ti have FireFox. These questions may be dumb but im a nub

If you mean make a desktop icon for firefox, right click on desktop- create new- file- link to application. In the box, on the application tab, type Firefox in the description box, same for comments or leave blank, and for command click on browse. For Mozilla, it is '/usr/local/mozilla/mozilla'. So I will assume firefox will be /usr/local/firefox/firefox. You should be able to browse in /usr/local/ and find it.

I don't believe, but could be wrong, that you can uninstall Konqueror by itself. It is part of kdebase. If you uninstall that you will lose most kde apps that you likely will want such as K3b for burning cd's and dvd's. Best to leave it installed and ignore it. Just use the browser you prefer instead.

For an app I want loaded at start up, I just leave it running when I shut down the system, and it then reloads on its own when I boot the next time. I suppose the proper way is as follows:
KDE has an Autostart feature. Any application links that you place in the autostart directory will be started when you log in to KDE.
This directory exists at
/home/user/.kde/Autostart
So any applications that you place links to in this directory will autostart. The apps will start in the first desktop that opens.
Note: the above directory address, replace "user" with your login user name, and ".kde" the period prefix tells you that it is a hidden folder. If you use Nautilus for a file browser, just click on the edit tab, then on properties, then on the view tab you will see a box to toggle "show hidden files"
