Couple of questions

Have only just started using Mandriva and i like it a lot but there's so much to learn lol. Would someone tell me how to install missing plugins please. Also, how do i stop screen savers appearing after a certain time of inactivity. Thanks in advance.

If you were talking about multimedia plugins, then you need to setup the PLF repos using the easyurpmi tool. As for screensavers, do you know which desktop environment you are using (usually KDE or GNOME)?

More often than not, things like screensavers can be configured by right-clicking on the desktop.

Otherwise, look in your menus for "screensaver"

Hiya reddazz and pixellany thanks for taking pity on a Linux n00b. I am using the Firefox browser and it keeps telling me that additional plugins are required (x-shockwave-flash) but i have to be honest and say that i haven't found a way yet of downloading and installing them.

As for the screen savers i am using the KDE enviroment and will have a go of right clicking in order to prevent them and see what happens lol. Thanks for the reply.

For KDE screensavers, you can right click on your desktop -> configure desktop -> screen saver and untick where it says "start automatically".

As for installing the flash plugin, you can download the flash rpm package from Adobe and install that.

If your right click is not working yet, go to the Mandriva Control Centre, (start, system, configuration, Control Centre) and select Appearance and Themes, Screensaver. You can change the config there.

Firefox plugins, there is a tute that is relevant at the top of the LQ Mandriva forum(sticky)

A flash plugin that will set up in the correct directory for firefox on mandriva can be found here.......

Hope that helps, Glenn

The flash player plugin package is available on PLF. If you do not have your Mandriva Package Manager configured to use the Internet Software Media Sources yet you should do so to make the full range of software packaged for use with Mandriva Linux available for installation. To help others understand what this is all about I have written an article on my LQ blog.
