Converting Video files?

Ok, I have some huge video files that I want to combine into one big clip. They're encoded with divx, but in Totem it says mpeg-4. They play fine. In WIndows I tried using Windows Media Encoder but it crashed on both machines. So what I need to do is convert them to something Windows can handle, or combine them in Mandrake.
What can I use to convert and/or combine the bloody things?

Divx is just an implementation of mpeg4, same with xvid, etc.
google for "all codecs" to grab one of those codec packs for your XP box.

I tried that, and it still doesn't work.

What wrapper is it in? (.avi, .mkv, etc?)
Konverter has a gui interface (uses MEncode), can concat, etc... maybe try that.

They are divx encodes AVI files.
I used VirtualDub to combine the files, and convert them to raw AVI with no compression... the files were huge around 11 gigs. From there, I used WIndows Media Encoder to convert them to WMV format.
There is zero observable quality loss - I was pretty impressed. I made sure the resolutions stayed them same - etc.
I'll check out Konverter though, I'm sure I'll run into a file at some point that I'll need to convert.

this ought to do it!

you can get a program called avicat that will combine divx. I'm not sure what package it's in in mandriva, but it's in avifile-utils under debian.
