Connect Linux to internett trough Windows XP PRO SP3
Hey
I have gotten the Mandriva powerpack 2007 edition.
I am very new to Linux at all.
I have installed it to my Dell Inspiron 1300 labtop, with no problems.
My problem is that I have Internet on my Windows ( i know ) computer, and I want to share that connection with my linux computer.
I have tried and tried to make it work, but with no success
And i have goggled a lot to see if I can find a solution, but no awnser found.
AND!
I am having problems with the sound. I cant turn it down :/
Any sugestions?
Enable Internet Connection Sharing on your Windows machine. On the Linux machine configure the default gateway to be the IP address of the Windows Machine's LAN IP address. If you use DHCP, then the nameserver addresses will be configured for you. Otherwise, run "ipconfig /all on the windows maching and jot down the nameserver (dns) address.
Distribution: Mandriva mostly, vector 5.1, tried many.Suse gone from HD because bad Novell/Zinblows agreement

You do have 2 computers, I had to read the post twice to be sure (daft me)

in addition if you are a newbie you will need to learn command lines such as
ifconfig
route -n (also route add, see man route)
cat /etc/resolv.conf
service network start
you will need to use drakconnect to enable DHCP

Reason: Since you posted link I thought I would list `Em..uk' in the Referrer option. I guess listing someone as a referrer gets them points or something! Maybe dibs on head of line @ St Peter's pearly gates?
No one seemed to mention if you don't have a router/hub/switch you will need a crossover cable, not a standard CAT5 cable. You can make one by switching the wire pairs in an existing CAT5 cable, I don't remember the wire layout though, this will be easy to find with a Google search though. This is only needed if you are connecting a cable from one computer straight to another, I would just buy a hub or switch though.
