Computer suggestion for Mandrake 10.0 Community
Hi - I'm looking to purchase a computer that would be compatable with Mandrake Linux 10.0, I was thinking about a Hewlett Packard AMD Athlon A520N, Or a HP Pavilion A500N - I'm pretty sure it comes with Windows XP Home Edition preinstalled, but I can overwrite it with a clean Mandrake Install - Correct?
Any suggestions for computers with around 80-180 GB of hard-drive space for Mandrake Linux 10.0 would be greatly appreiated. |
Get a copy of mdk 10 official if you can, preferably the 4 cd set. It's a bit better.
MDK will happily overwrite XP... And it will enjoy doing it too. As for the space... I wouldn't know what to do with it all :) I really need to get a drive as soon as I can... I do have 60 gig here somewhere, but having trouble finding it :) |
Upgrade?
Thanks, I have a 3 CD set of Mandrake Community, but I should be able to Upgrade to Offical once I get internet up, correct?

Well I'm one of fffew running a dual cpu box. You really can't beat a dually for raw power. I have yet to bring mine to its knees and its getting a bit dated. I even ran a lan party for my son with 16 of his best friends over for pizza and gaming. to make a long story short my Mandrake box running 10.0 was able to serve up Counterstrike, Unreal Tournament, and Quake 3, without missing a beat. It was awesome. I was even using the box as I normally do. I was crusing the net and even watched a dvd while they were playing. I don't think a single cpu box could handle the load. My cpu usage was about 60-70%. of course the SCSI drive really helps while being backed by 1.5 gig of ram. So I would whole heartedly recommend a Dual CPU box.
PDR60 P.S. I'll probably get flamed but being an old Drag racer, the old axium holds true......there'e no substitute for "cubes" ......there's no substitute for smp. |
