Compiling 2.4.25 kernel in MDK 9.1

Howdy all,
Just so I can learn more about Linux, I hope to compile the 2.4.25 kernel on my MDK 9.1 box this weekend. I've read the posts here and some tutorials, but my concern is I always hear how MDK patches the Hell out of their systems. If I just grab the 2.4.25 kernel from kernel.org, can I compile it, or do I need XYZ patch to get it to run under MDK 9.1? Just trying to plan ahead.
Thanks for any pointers.

You could install the Mandrake kernel source.

Bear in mind, that even compiling a kernel downloaded from kernel.org, you will still have your old kernel that you can boot up to if the new one doesn't work for you.

You don't need any extra patches from MDK (or whatever) to compile your kernel.org kernel. You just need the usual development packages. (which have nothing to be with kernel packages)

Cool, thanks for the feedback. I'll certainly keep my current kernel around and selectable in case the new one doesn't boot, I just didn't know if I was doomed to fail because MDK had hooks in patches that assumed an MDK-patched kernel. Wish me luck!
