compile kernel once for multiple distros?

hi,
suppose i install 2 different distros on 2 different partitions. then i compiled a kernel while running the distro 1. now, i also want to use the same kernel with distro 2.
can i simply copy over the /usr/src/<version> and /lib/modules/<version> from distro 1 to distro 2 partition? would that have the same effect as if i also compiled the kernel while running distro 2? then just copy bzImage to /boot and modify bootloader accordingly.
in short, is it possible to compile a kernel only once to use with multiple distros? if so, did i do enough as i said above or do i need to do something else?
thanks.

I have never tried this, but I think what you are saying can be done.

Compiling kernel for another distro

It can be done. Check out www.linuxfromscratch.org for documentation on the details.

Linux From Scratch provides information on how you can create your own distribution.
