currently dual-booting, for 1 game in windows, sad... but my clock works perfectly in windows xp, not in mandriva. every time I restart the pc it's about 3-to-ten minutes off. that would not be a problem because of ntp synchronization, but i continually get a "cannot connect to ntp server" message when attempting to synchronize. i recently updated after easyurpmi-ing, and briefly had ntp server success, but after logging out, not so much. after ironing out my compiz bugs, this is the only thorn left in my side. to get accurate time i am now uninstalling then re-installing ntp/ntp client package to get it to work each time. not much on google about this, in huge contrast to the compiz stuff. any help?
Try installing the 'Wizards' package then start up your Mandrive Control Centre (MCC) and under Network Services you will have an option to setup a time server to be syncronized with an external time server. There are probably easier ways to do this but this setup works for me.
thank you, i followed your instructions and set up the ntp server; but i still have the same *.ntp.org connect failure and incorrect time problems. i am still puzzled why windows keeps perfect time but under mandriva the clock is off (usually fast), and why unistalling/reinstalling the ntp packages fixes it.
Have you checked your logs or the output of dmesg to see if ntpd is starting at boot time? Has the ntpd been set to start at boot? Your logs my also show what errors (if any) are occuring.

i don't see it
but there are a few quirks... my wifi doesn't come up until i'm in kde/ and when i try ntpd or ntpdate, it says that the socket is already in use.
i decided not to include dsmeg output in this post
