Choosing a printer.

I have a Lexmark Z55 printer that plain doesn't work on Mandriva despite trying absolutely everything. The driver won't even decompress from the script file from Lexmark.

So I need to buy a new printer. What's the best printer to get that isn't silly money but works on Linux, more over, works on Mandriva 2006?

Cheers.

I would suggest you get HP or Epson printers, since they seem to be well supported on Linux.

I've found lexmark z25 and it's varients are supported in mandrake 10.x and mandriva,

too bad I don't have one any more, lol.

(edit) there must be some way to get that driver to decompress, though I don't know it.

I do remember that the driver I used for my lexmark was not the correct one (same model number)but it allowed printing and configuring, black and white and colour too.

Not sure if it monitored the ink levels.

Any way, there a couple of links mentioned above that should help and are helping me with my canon pixma ip1000, no drivers for it yet.

I have a HP PSC 1401 all in one print,scan,copy about $69 walmart

It works great with mandy 2006.Matter of fact it works on all from mandrake 10.2. and up.I mostly use 2006x64 but for some reason they didnt make a bibletime pkg for the x64(whats up with that?)I have mandy 2005le in my box also just for that pkg.

I tried a few lexmarks and never could get them to work at all.I'm sure its a proprietary thing.

lexmark=bad
HP=good

Hi PipeDreams, have you tried to install it in 2006x64 from 2005le disks. I've done this successfully with other non-system packages from older distros and they work fine.

I don't have 64 bit though, but I can't see why it would not work.

No I didnt even think of that! I think it comes from a urpmi source tho.

next time I screw up my x64 install bad enough I have to re-install(happens on a regular basis ) I'll see if another version of mandy has the pkg on one of the disc sets.

Thanks for the idea.
