The biggest advantage that I can see is that Mandrake will probably be a lot more stable than previous releases. They have had a lot of stick for releasing very buggy distros in the 9.x series, but they have obviously tried to fix these issues in the 10.x series. This change however, may not go down well with those that like to be on the bleeding edge of things and like the latest and greatest software.
Anyway,. is this going to affect 10.2? Because 10.2 is alr4eady out-of-date gnome-wise with 2.8, now I'm going to have to wait for a year for gnome 2.14 or whatever?
I am crossing my fingers, hoping that they will provide KDE3.4 as an "update" via urpmi. If not, then we may have to depend on good friends like thac, to keep us up to date on some of these things.

Why is there no "download" under release channels?
Well, if they dont provide a download version, Mandrake may end up like RHEL, with many clones and very few individuals (not corporations or businesses) using the original product.
What we've been talking about in this post has really shown us how much Linux is moving away from the "free beer" concept. I have found that even in the year I've used it, more things cost money, and it's hard to find a really good, easy, graphical distro without Fedora. I haven't tried fedora, but if Mandrake does what we think, it's going to be on straight away, because I've been waiting long enough already.
